Most Indian women are brought up to speak softly (if at all), make no demands, not draw attention to themselves, stay under the radar, be invisible in a manner of speaking. As panelist Deepa Narayan, author of Chup: Breaking the Silence about India’s Women, says, “It is a short step from keeping quiet to becoming invisible.” The panel will examine how India can bring about collective change to let women reclaim their long-suppressed identities.
