From the quietly personal, to community belief, to the politicisation of its meaning, the Hindu religion lives among us in forms that can be in harmony and/or in conflict. Some Hindus flinch from ‘Hindutva’; others proudly wave its banner. To some Hinduism means inclusion and tolerance, to others it is a robust exclusive identity. How do, and how should, the individual, religious and political constructs of this time-honoured way of life, play out in India today?
